when ever i try to manual my board's front end wont stay up, the tail trys to bend back really fast, causing me to go into some graceful cartwheels. I was wondering how to place my weight.

your board may be too stiff. could be to do with your stance too... what i do is imagine im riding pow an put almost all my wieght on my back foot an lean back. the noes comes up an vola you have your mmanual.

Doing a manual (or a "butter") is not really a black & white thing, like in skateboarding...
In skateboarding, a manual "IS" or it "ISN'T". If your raised wheels touch down or your tail touches the gound, then it's CLEAR that the manual was sloppy, or just "not a manual".
In snowboarding you have range of valid manual heights. But, it's harder to tell exactly where your weight is centered over a bent snowboard tail.
I say take Dopey's advice and lean FAR over your nose/tail, and focus less on lifting the other end of the board. Think weight shifting instead of leg lifting, that might help. You might find that a more flexible board helps, but I do nosepresses and shit all day on my Ride Timeless.
Hope that helps
