First of all, I'm looking to buy a board for myself... I'm 5'11 1/2 with my shoes off and 170 lbs, should I go for the 164 inch board or the 162 inch board?

i'm just learning how to snowboard. should i set my bindings right in the middle - or should I have more board space from the tip to where my leading foot is and less in the back?

my opinion on that is a wider stance.front foot more towards the front....back foot more towards the back. Not too wide where it feels uncomfortable but enough so when you start working on your turns you don't catch an edge when you turn.As you get better you'll find that the back foot pretty much controls how you turn or carve.Having your legs too close together makes it a little harder to move your back foot in or out.Just my first season though so take my advice with caution..... :D .

Just got back from Northstar today. I moved both bindings to the front so both bindings are set evenly between both end of the board. I thought it worked out okay than having both bindings set more towards the back as my previous set up mentioned above.

At first, I had trouble turning right (I ride regular) since my front foot was angled at 17 degrees and the rear 2. After setting it to 12, I did a lot better.

Coming out from a right turn was easy, but I would sometimes over turn to the left and end up going downhill backwards. Going back to the right always required more effort.

Northstar closed at 4:30 pm and I didn't have time to lower the angle on the front binding. Maybe a lesser angle would have made it easier coming out of the left turns. Or since I used my rear foot (I noticed) to come out of the right turn, I forget to shift the pressure back to the front foot. I wish I had more time.

Also my stance I thought I was a bit wide. I had trouble bending my knees. :(
